C3: SCITATION'S EVOLVING PLATFORM

Scitation C3 has arrived, setting the standard for the future of STM publishing. C3 is designed from the ground up to meet the needs of today’s researchers while providing publishers maximum flexibility. The C3 platform is built on the following principles:

  • Realize the full potential of XML
  • Meet user demands for more efficient, actionable discovery
  • Create new modes for exploring content
  • Provide smart interfaces for today’s mobile users
  • Give publishers more control over their content

Scitation C3 has arrived, and with it, the promise of XML to turn granular markup structures into meaningful content services for end-users. Having already broken free from print-based, linear design, and understanding that today’s researchers have less time per article, C3 is reducing discovery and reading time by exposing content components in the XML. The C3 infrastructure dynamically connects similar concepts and exposes related content without user interaction.

All of this is packaged in an information architecture that presents targeted content in a simple, elegant visual design, allowing both publishers and users more control over the presentation. For researchers, key metadata is now “actionable” via links to guided searches, download options or quick browsing. For publishers, flexible layouts and web-based content management provide plenty of options for ensuring your messages, goals, and initiatives are being shared with your community.

Search has been enhanced with more options as well as better controls to explore that content with faceted results and the ability to expand or collapse additional data. In addition, the user can search on peer-reviewed content and editorial/site content, or choose between them.

C3 journal pages have been designed into content hubs that automatically detect a mobile device and redirect to the mobile editions. You’ll find these versions to be excellent traveling companions, each with a clean, streamlined design that avoids elements that can make navigation cumbersome.

We consider this an exhilarating beginning and invite you to join us.

ABOUT SCILABS

SciLabs is a new interactive workspace for the Scitation technology team to work on rapid development of new features, applications, and ideas with input from you, our users. It will also be a place for us to get your feedback and suggest new services we might not have thought of. Please feel free to poke around the Lab and download a widget or two. Note that we don't guarantee the usefulness of any of our tools and widgets for any particular purpose (but if you notice any bugs, report them to the Labs Staff). Certain widgets, tools, and beta applications might be available for a limited time as well.
